This project is a SIP based softphone developed as a Java applet that can be embedded into a website. The applet has a simple user interface and is intended to be used by journalists to make and deposit audio recordings via a SIP proxy.

The Java VoIP Client is a research project that was executed by BBC Research and Development as work to produce a proof of concept artifact.

The BBC R&D project ‘Java VoIP Client’ has come to an end, BBC R&D is no longer developing the project any further. The project is now being released to the open source community, with a hope that the open source community will continue development of the ‘Java VoIP client’.
